Mame Addicts mission: To continue the preservation of MAME and classic arcade games for future generations. There currently is no “Library” that keeps a history of all video games as of right now.

History of MAME Addicts.

I have always been a BIG gamer. I have spent thousands of dollars in my lifetime collecting and enjoying various systems and their games. Oddly enough, I never heard of M.A.M.E. until my doctor told me about it during a routine checkup. I had know idea that my doctor was an avid gamer. I decided I would look into this more, so I checked it out on the internet. I spent a couple of hours figuring which version would be best, and went with mame32 because of its attractive GUI feature.

One day in late 2005, I search Youtube.com for MAME. What I found was a LOT of people asking for help on how to set it up. I decided that I would make a video on the basics of using mame32.

At the time I had been dabbling in the creation of short videos. I then created a Youtube channel called “Chrispy’s Channel” which featured a series of “How To” videos. The first video was about how to set a bios password in a computer to prevent it from booting. The seconded was how to make pancakes. Then came “How to Use Mame.”

The “How to Use Mame” video was a hit. It had received about 50 comments in the first month. However, as with some projects, I got bored of the Chrispy Channel.

“How to Use Mame” makes a come back.

It had been about five months since I close down the channel that I decided to get into making videos again. I created another channel called “Incito”, which is Latin for “To Inspire.” The original focus of this channel was a political one. The first video was about the Iraq war. The second was on gun control. I got bored of this fairly quickly and didn’t add anything for awhile until I put up a video of my arcade machine.

Funny enough, some Youtubers recognized me and asked about the video on “How to Use Mame.” I told them I still had a copy of it and could send it to them. One suggested putting it back up because it really was helpful to him. So, I figured, “What the Hell?”

The video had been up for a few months and had around 100 comments when I decided I would dedicate a site to MAME enthusiast.

Birth of MAME Addicts.

I wanted to create a site that was different that the usual MAME site that just offered downloads. I knew I didn’t want to offer rom downloads. There were already many sites that were established for this purpose. I wanted to set myself apart from that.

I decided to make a site that focus on helping gamers learn how to set up MAME and get their games running. It is not my responsibility to ensure they have a legal right to the rom. I didn’t offer the rom download. I did feel like I have the right to offer FREE advice on how to get a it running, as well as tweak the interface.

As for naming the site, that was easy.
